Release of a short music documentary entitled:
Metamorfose, Jazz Window Presentation - Tiny Musical Party. Recorded at Metamorfose, a secondhand - and antiquarian bookshop in Amsterdam. The music track: "Short Stories - The Gathering" features Victor de Boo, drums and Wiro Mahieu, bass. Directing camera: Martijn van Beenen.
     
2019   July 2 - Production of a personal film/ documentary entitled: "Parkinson's Disease, Emotional Involvement, Jazz, Coping Strategy, Improvised music.". Rene was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease in August 2018.
May 10 - Jazz window/ "de Jazzetalage". Opening of an exhibition in recognition of Rene's pioneering career: Crowdfunding, Stage Bus, Jazz and Wajang etc.

 

 

 

2018   January 1-  Video production of The Helsdingen trio featuring Henk Zomer and Jos Machtel. A promotional video (recorded December 2017) was released entitled Loop, trailer + 4 clips.
March 1 - Internet release of a double album:
"China Compilation", Rene van Helsdingen. Compilation of 17 Chinese traditional songs recorded in 1985/87. Style: Chinese folk music converted into New Age, World, Fusion and Rock. The album features: Brian Batie, Egbert van Gruythuyzen, Luluk Purwanto, Ben v/d Dungen, Evert Hekkema, Stefan Lievestro, Jan ten Brug, Broer Giesing and others. This release is part of an effort to distribute and promote music in China through the exclusive services of MUSICINFO, a company based in Finland that distributes to major Chinese music services.
     
2017   Internet release of a double CD: "Water, All of it", Rene van Helsdingen, consisting of all previously in 2010 recorded material of the MP3trio including 3 unreleased tracks. The album features Essiet Okon Essiet and Marcello Pellitteri. This release is part of an effort to distribute all of Helsdingen recordings on music web and streaming sites.

April 15 - Sept 24 MLD SPOT Stage Bus Jazz Tour 2016 - performances in 16 cities on Java, Bali and Sumatra, Indonesia on the Stage Bus featuring the Mp3trio, with Benny Mustafa, Taufan Goenarso, Kevin Yosua, Jeffrey Tahalele, Brian Batie. During the tour many famous Indonesian artists were invited to perform including Barry Likumahuwa, Yura Yunita, Eva Celia and many others.

March 4-6 “MLD SPOT Stage Bus Jazz Tour 2016” - at the Jakarta International BNI JAVAJAZZ FESTIVAL. 9 performances on the Stage Bus featuring the Mp3trio, with Benny Mustafa and Jeffrey Tahalele and other groups.

Sept 11 - Nov 29: “MLD SPOT presents Stage Bus Jazz Tour 2015” -32 performances in 24 cities throughout Jawa and Bali, Indonesia on the Stage Bus. Jazz Music performances, Stand-up comedy and food truck festival sponsored by MLDSpot.  Featuring the mp3trio, Rene van Helsdingen, piano; Benny Mustafa, drums; Jeffrey Tahalele, Bass. Special guests performing with the mp3trio include: Kevin Yosua, Inna Kamarie, Davina Raja, Bonita Adi, Syaharani, Rieka Roslan, Tiyo Alibasjah, Ireng Maulana, Matthew Sayersz, Dewa Budjana, Margie Segers, Dira Sugandi, Oele pattiselanno, Yura Yunita, Sandhy Sondoro, Tompi and many others.

On may 12th 2010, in Ottawa, a printed version of the book: "Friendship" was offered to Her Royal Highness Princess Margriet of the Netherlands and her husband Pieter van Vollenhoven in the spirit of peace and international friendship as a tribute to Canadian veterans on the 65th anniversary of the liberation of the Netherlands. This event was organized and supported by the Canadian Tulip Festival, Ottawa and The Royal Netherlands Embassy, Ottawa.

16 concerts in and around Jakarta ( Jabotabek.) with the STAGE BUS I featuring Marcello Pellitteri and Essiet Okon Essiet. A non-profit tour to promote Jazz in Indonesia, presenting the New Generation MEZZO Jazz Award to identify talented young Indonesian jazz musicians.

     

2006

 

Publication online of the internet book: "Friendship" The Story, their stories - 4 jazz musicians playing tribute to Canadian WWII Veterans, a 500 page book written and published by Rene van Helsdingen. A written impression of 100 concerts in 76 communities, driving 50.000 km with the stage bus and handing out 57.000 tulips. This book has the pictures of beautiful Canada and their beautiful people. Hundreds of veterans attended these concerts and their images and stories were published in this book making it a valuable historical document. In 76 communities the mayor received a tulip friendship Garden in honour of the WWII Veterans, the 60th Anniversary of the liberation of Holland and the Friendship between Canadians and the Dutch. During this tour it became so clear: the Dutch love the Canadians and the Canadians love the Dutch.

Organized in cooperation with the Canadian Tulip Festival, Ottawa, The Royal Netherlands Embassy, Ottawa and JakArt @ 2005 International Arts Cultural and Educational Festival. The tour was officially launched on May 13th, 2005 by Her Royal Highness Princess Margriet by the release of 60 doves from the roof of the Stage Bus. In co-operation with The Stage, Jakarta, a bus was purchased and rebuild by visual artist: Aart Marcus. The side of the Stage Bus can be lowered to form a stage. (equiped with grand piano, sound system etc.) for outdoor performances.

(directed and produced by Theo Ordeman/ Frans Mijts) This production was financed by Helsdingen Music BV and released by Dureco (CD: 'The Walz', Dureco 1151512) The movie was purchased and broadcasted on Nov 8, 1989 by TV2 Denmark.

The recording for LP "Motivation" (Munich Records BM150232) was financed by the sale of 400 spaces on the record-cover. By raising small amounts of money from a large number of people to fund the recording of an LP-project, Rene was a pioneer in the practice of Crowfunding.  This practice was supported and first mentioned in a television program of Mies Bouwman (Dutch TV Host) on November 3, 1981.

- During his 2-year stay in Hollywood, California, René shared a house with several Musicians including Steve Jacobs, Essiet Okon Essiet, Brian Batie, John Rigby, John Butler and others. All house members were involved in a recording at the Media Art Studio's in Hermosa beach. Rene signed with Munich records and released his first album: "Rene van Helsdingen, Coal Mining" (Munich Records BM 150219) featuring: Wim Essed, Klaus Flenter, Börge Ring, Henk Zomer, Martijn Nesenberend, Dick Pluim and a student orchestra formed during his studies of mining engineering at the Technical University of Delft, The Netherlands. This recording represents the beginning of his professional career in the 70-ties. The start of a diverse string of original recordings and releases influenced by the world of jazz.
