non-profit tour dedicated to promote
and support Jazz in Indonesia.

The New
Generation MEZZO Jazz Award
an award to identify and nurture talented young jazz musicians and
to encourage them to follow their dreams.
From August 24th to September 11th, 2006 Luluk Purwanto & the Helsdingen
Trio will perform 16 concerts in and around Jakarta. ( Jabotabek.)
The concerts will take place at Universities and public areas.
During
this tour, Luluk
and
Djarum Super Mezzo
will present “the New Generation MEZZO Jazz Award”, an Award designed
to encourage young musicians to keep the jazz tradition in Indonesia
alive and through which young musicians can be given the opportunity
to fulfil their talent and potential. The Award is aimed at young
professional musicians at the beginning of their careers and
recognizes outstanding young musicians age 18 to 30.
The
“New Generation tour” will certainly provide a wonderful forum for
young musicians to showcase their talents.
Prior to the concerts of Luluk Purwanto and the Helsdingen Trio, a
jazz combo of up to 5 Indonesian musicians will be invited to
perform as an opening act. (A jazz combo is by definition
a small band of jazz musicians
(instrumentalists and vocalists))
A maximum of 14 jazz combos will be selected during a
pre-selection process. A committee of distinguished music
professionals will be present at each of these performances. One day
will be set aside for all participating combos to perform. These
performances will also be judged. The Committee will select the
award recipients based on the 2 performances. The winner will
receive a cash price of Rp. 50.000.000,- . The winners of the New
Generation MEZZO Jazz award will also be invited to perform as
feautured Guest Star on the last day of the tour.

Because
of the unique composition of the group, with Luluk regarded as one
of Indonesia’s foremost jazz artists closely working together with
International Jazz musicians, this program will be a true cultural
exchange. As such, the tour will serve to promote better
relationships among different cultures, mutual understandings and
world peace. The Stage Bus with Luluk Purwanto & the Helsdingen trio
are an Internationally recognized jazz ensemble, dedicated to
bringing their music to audiences around the world and continually
breaking new ground for the acceptance and appreciation of
improvised music.
