September 2004 AN
EXOTIC TROUPE AT THE MAIN SQUARE OF PYRGOS Enchanted
by the Indonesian artists! The joyful invasion of an art
group made of numerous artists from far-away Indonesia was experienced
last night in the township of Pyrgos. It is the traveling group ‘Stage
Bus’ which started its tour and will continue until the 14th
of September, visiting towns in the seven prefectures of the Peloponese;
they will be giving performances with singing, music, dance, shadow
theatre and video projections. This colourful
invasion is under the auspices of the Indonesian government and the
Cultural Olympiad. A specially transformed bus, a stage on wheels, with all the
necessary equipment (shadow theatre screen, video projectors, a grand
piano, drums), transported the 20 Indonesian artists to Pyrgos. In their
own magical way they presented an a-la-carte programme. Music, singing, dance,
Indonesian traditional shadow theatre and video projections, all in a
performance on the moving theatre of the Stage Bus of the JakArt cultural
organization, supported by the national committee for the Cultural
Olympiad. The Indonesian government, responding to the invitation by the
Greek government and under the auspices of the Ministry of Tourism and
Culture of Indonesia and the Cultural Olympiad, supports this effort. It
is also supported by the Embassy of Indonesia in Greece and the Greek
Embassy in Jakarta. This
moving theatre is none other than a 12-metre long vehicle, whose side
unfolds and forms a stage on which all action takes place. The
‘Stage Bus’ has its own audio systems, lighting systems and musical
instruments, the most impressive being a grand piano. It is the event all
of us who happened to be at the central square in Pyrgos had the chance to
admire. |
