A CULTURAL JOURNEY TO INDONESIA

A small taste of the particular characteristics of the Indonesian culture through music, dance, singing, even shadow theatre from Indonesia were available to anyone who happened to be in Pyrgos’ central square the night before last.

Twenty people from Indonesia started their tour of towns in all seven Peloponnesian prefectures. The traveling troupe “Stage Bus” is visiting towns, performing songs, dance, music, shadow theatre and video projections.

The group travels on a specially transformed multi-purpose bus fully equipped for performances, with a theatre stage, video projectors and screens, grand piano, drums, etc.

The show in Sakis Karagiorgas Square included a rich programme which even included shadow theatre. This made the best impression to all present. The event started with music from Indonesia, while we were very impressed by the young lady who danced a Balinese dance, enchanting us with her exotic beauty.

Exchange of cultures

It is worth mentioning that these performances are in the framework of the Cultural Olympiad, supported by the Indonesian National Committee for the Cultural Olympiad set up by the Indonesian government after an invitation by the Greek government. They are also under the auspices of the Ministry of Tourism and Culture of Indonesia. Also, this effort is supported by the Embassy of Indonesia in Greece and the Greek Embassy in Jakarta.

In an exclusive interview with four of the members of the group, they said they have a great wish to present the Greek Karagiozis in their country in the framework of cultural exchange between the two countries. The proposal has already been made to the officials and a final answer is expected in order to make this idea come true.  Finally, they also expressed how impressed they were by the participation of the people and they also expressed their admiration of Greek culture.
