During the month of May 2005, we will be commemorating and celebrating the 60th anniversary of the liberation of The Netherlands. Numerous events are organized to express gratitude to the people of Canada and in particular to those servicemen and women who contributed so much to liberate The Netherlands from occupation. The Tulips 2005 tour of Luluk Purwanto and the Helsdingen Trio with their Stage Bus to more than 70 cities and towns all over Canada and the publication of this journal is a great way to thank the veterans and to bring their stories and the message of Peace and Friendschip to the younger generations. I would like to thank and congratulate Rene van Helsdingen and Luluk Purwanto for the tremendous job that they have done in organizing the Tulips 2005 tour and for his work to collect and publish this journal which tells the moving stories of so many veterans. I wholeheartedly support this wonderful and admirable endeavour to once again say:

Aart Marcus is an audio-visual installation artist from Holland.  After forming his own company that was involved in museum installations, avant-garde furniture design, and special projects, he began using his background in electrical engineering to create, design, and realize artworks to stimulate the imagination and creativity of the viewing audience.  The co-reaction of one sense to stimulate another is one of the interesting possibilities of electrical engineering which Marcus employs in his artistic creations. One such installation, for instance, involves rewiring of television tubes with special sound-sensors attached to electronic beams that draw “pictures” onto the screen of pre-recorded musical tapes or even live sound sources.  Marcus has received numerous accolades and awards for his innovative work as an audio-visual artist in Holland.
