CULTURAL OLYMPIAD
From Indonesia, the Stage Bus takes the Peloponnese and Attica by storm

For three weeks, a happy and exotic group of artists from faraway Indonesia will be touring the region of Peloponnese, in southern mainland Greece. The "invaders" come in peace on a mobile theater on wheels and promise to make heads turn. From august 25 to September 8, the "Stage Bus" will be visiting towns and cities in the region's seven districts giving performances of music, dances, shadow theatre and video projections. The colorful invasion concludes in the Athenian municipalities with last stop at Peristeri, on September 11. The Stage Bus tour is presented by the embassy of Indonesia in Athens and the Hellenic Culture Organization SA.

A specially designed multifunctional bus bearing all the necessary equipment (shadow theater stage, video projevtors, a grand piano, drum sets, etc.) carries the twenty Indonesian artists to places like:

Music, singing, dancing, Indonesian traditional shadow theatre, video projections, all in one show presented on the mobile stage of the Stage Bus of the JakArt cultural organization, with the support of the Indonesian National Committee for the Cultural Olympiad, and under the aegis of the Indonesian Ministry of Tourism and Culture and Greece's Cultural Olympiad. The project also enjoys the support of the embassies of Indonesia in Athens and of Greece in Jakarta.

This unique trip to culture that is being realized in the true spirit of the Olympic and Paralympic Games of Athens 2004, aims to encourage the cross-cultural understanding between different nations.

The Stage Bus was built in the Netherlands in 1994, designed by installation artist Aart Marcus and his Helsdingen Trio. Since then it travels and performs in Europe, USA, Australia and Indonesia, which finances the project.

It is a 12-meter long vehicle with the stage folding out from its one side and with its own sound equipment, including a grand piano and lighting, etc.
