HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- An international jazz trio on a limited concert tour of the United States will be among headliners of the University Activities Council fall calendar at the University of Southern Mississippi.

The UAC will offer more than 20 inexpensive, on-campus events for students in the fall.

"Our motto for this year is ‘Just because we're cheap doesn't mean we can't show you a good time,'" said Mary Beth Bankson, coordinator of students activities.

At the top of the list of events is a Sept. 20 performance on Pride Field by Luluk Purwanto and the Helisdingen Trio, said Bankson. The international jazz group has chosen only 42 U.S. college campuses to visit this year.

John Allen, UAC president, said other highlights of the fall calendar include Crawfish Fest, the return of Casino Night and Reggae Fest, and the introduction of Improv Comedy Night.

"We brought back Casino Night and Reggae Fest because of student demand," said Allen, a senior graphic communication major. "We want to provide students with the events they want."

The UAC also will provide 15 movie showings at Seymour's Cinema on Hardy Street. These movies cost $1 with a student ID or $2 without a student ID. The fall lineup will include "Monsters, Inc." and "A Beautiful Mind."

The UAC, entirely student-run, plans, produces and promotes entertainment for the USM community.

– Glamour magazine on Campus 7 a.m.-7 p.m., Sept. 23-24, Shoemaker Square

– Black Comedy Tour, 7 p.m., Oct. 9, Bennett Auditorium

– Bingo Night, 7 p.m., Oct. 17, Seymour's

– Halloween Carnival, 5-7 p.m., Oct. 31, Union Lobby

– Reggae Fest, 4-7 p.m., Nov. 1, Shoemaker Square (rainsite Union Lobby)

– Improv Night, 7 p.m., Nov. 12, Seymour's.

– End of the Year Party, Dec. 4.
